Austin Williamson met Madeline Logan through mutual friends in the 8th grade. Both were homeschooled through high school. And before they started dating, Austin asked Madeline’s dad for permission to date his daughter.
Madeline has been a dancer her entire life, and she teaches at the dance studio she attended while in high school. Madeline grew up with an appreciation for one particular aisle at Lowe’s: lighting.
“Dad couldn’t go a Saturday without going to a hardware store. I wanted to go to Lowe’s and turn all the lights out except the lighting aisle,” she said, explaining that it reminded her of being on stage dancing.
Wanting to create a memorable proposal for his longtime girlfriend, Austin turned to Lowe’s in Mishawaka, Indiana, for help. He asked store manager Doug Marlow if he could help pull off the surprise of a lifetime.
On a recent Friday night, Austin took Madeline out to a movie. On the drive home, Madeline was telling Austin all the things she liked about the movie. He told her they needed to stop at Lowe’s to pick up something.
Madeline was confused, but didn’t think much about it when they arrived at Lowe’s. To her surprise, the doors opened to a magically lit Christmas wonderland.
Austin had purchased Christmas lights that lit the path from the front doors to the lighting aisle. There, Austin got down on one knee. And of course, Madeline’s answer was yes.
“He told me I lit up his life and made it brighter,” Madeline said. “I had the biggest crush on him, and now I’m marrying him.”
Madeline’s friend since high school, Abigail Edwards, photographed the proposal. Two Lowe’s employees, Jackie Mosier and Angela Elrod-Wright, turned on the Christmas lights and set up the lit path before the couple arrived.
Austin’s attention to detail wasn’t just for the proposal, but also for the ring. Madeline’s favorite jewelry store is Consider the Wldflwrs, located in Nashville, Tennessee. Austin worked with Madeline’s best friends and the store’s owner to come up with a perfect ring for his bride-to-be.
The couple is planning to marry in September 2017. Since they go on a lot of breakfast dates, they’re planning a brunch wedding. While the venue has not been finalized, Lowe’s is planning to provide lighting for the couple’s special day.
