It’s not unusual to see a dog when shopping at a Lowe’s store. At Lowe’s in East Indianapolis, you’ll not only see dogs, but also a wall dedicated to its K-9 customers.
Employee Susan Parnell noticed Ron Smith walking his dog, Ivy, in the store’s parking lot every day. She spoke to Smith and Ivy, eventually discovering the pair was staying in a nearby hotel while their home underwent repair from severe damage sustained in a house fire. Smith initially didn’t realize Lowe’s was pet friendly.
“It was normal for him to walk around the parking lot with his dog. Finding out he could bring her in here and walk around with him while shopping for his new home was a win-win situation,” Parnell said.
In September, Parnell talked to an assistant store manager about taking pictures of all the dogs that come through the store and placing them on a board. “We’ve got our Lowe’s family, what about our K-9 family?” Parnell asked.
Sam Jones, a creative store associate, designed the boards. Ivy was the first dog photographed for the store’s wall of K-9 customers. Today, the store proudly displays over 70 photos.
