Lowe’s teamed up with AT&T and HydroPoint® to help reduce its water use and reduce carbon emissions in the community. With environmental stewardship as a focus area for Lowe’s, the company developed sustainability goals that included reducing U.S. carbon emissions by 20 percent by 2020.
The AT&T and HydroPoint technology was installed at more than 900 Lowe’s stores across the country, helping the company reach that emissions goal three years early. Using less water also reduces the energy local communities use to clean and pump water.
The smart irrigation solution allows Lowe’s to more precisely determine when and where to water, and can easily be operated from a mobile device or laptop.
The solution, which saves 650 million gallons of water annually, is also reducing carbon emissions by almost 750 metric tons a year. That’s enough to fill almost 1,000 Olympic swimming pools and avoid greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions equal to consuming about 84 thousand gallons of gasoline.
