Finding the right tool can be a key factor in successfully completing any project. For many customers, the Lowe’s retail app is the “power tool” helping them get the job done.
Lowe’s shoppers span a variety of consumer segments, including homeowners, apartment renters, property managers and professional contractors. The needs and interests of each can differ widely, so Lowe’s reimagined its app from various customer perspectives, and then tuned it up in ways that will save time and add convenience for all users.
The app for iPhone has evolved remarkably from its initial launch five years ago. Since its early days, Lowe’s has leveraged key operating system and device capabilities, and reengineered back-end systems to deliver the most relevant information when customers expect it. The redesigned app empowers customers to:
• Locate products in the store
• Favorite the stores they visit most often
• Check product availability for in-store pickup
• Build shopping lists with products and notes
• View purchase history with MyLowe’s
The reimagined iOS app also has enlarged touch areas that make it easy to use with one hand, freeing up customers as they shop. And the app provides shortcuts throughout to give power users direct access to popular screens and destinations within the app on their iPhone.
Looking forward, the new iOS design changes give Lowe’s even more opportunities for enhancements, such as allowing shoppers to choose preferred stores.
“We find that most of our shoppers tend to frequent a handful of stores that are near their home, work or job site,” said Gihad Jawhar, vice president of Lowe’s digital. “By remembering that information, the app makes it easy for them to check availability at their favorite stores and coordinate mobile order pickups.”
The app redesign is much more than a new skin. The new code is more efficient, faster and optimized for Apple devices.
“As part of our ongoing commitment to keep our tools sharp, we decided to redesign the app by leveraging Apple’s Swift technology,” said Mike Voelker, director of digital technology – mobility. “We’re able to maintain a rapid development and release tempo to provide exciting new features that appeal to our customers more frequently.”
For example, customers will soon be able to enjoy alternate display options such as grid views and be able to compare multiple products on a single screen.
The new app is just the latest in series of projects Lowe’s has developed for the Apple platform, spanning the breadth of innovative DIY and home improvement tools. Lowe’s has long been developing custom mobile apps for its associates, and today also supports Apple Watch, Apple TV and a portfolio of apps delivering project inspiration, home security and monitoring, and e-commerce.
“Mobile plays a major role in a wide variety of our customer’s interactions,” said Eric Hanson, director of digital experience and product management. “When they open the Lowe’s app, they are entering our store through another door.”
With the contemporary new design and capable features, Lowe’s new iOS power tool now provides an even more inviting entrance for customers.
The Lowe’s app for iPhone is available exclusively on the App Store.
